Summer Learning Journey Day 5 (week 5)

Day 5 (week 5)

Wow! What an amazing journey it has been doing the Summer Learning Journey and learning new information that I could never have known without it! Before I do my blog post I would like to thank all the members of The Summer Learning Journey and for the viewers that view my blog because they always leave positive feedback!

Activity 1-Your Future Self

For the last activity 1 of the Summer Learning Journey, my task was to think about my future(getting a job, graduation from high school, get a house etc.) and then post all these things that I can think of on my blog, here we go!

When I finish school my current heading seems to be either an accountant, a writer or a musician. For me, these are my top 3 subjects but I have absolutely no idea which I would choose, well not in the near future. At the moment I am not sure if university for me but depending on my courses in the future it will all unfold! After leaving high school I would also like to go on an Overseas Experience and visit many of the beautiful countries on our planet (including Paris!).

Activity 2-Flying Cars

If I had imagined that I got my license and was able to drive any of these cars which one would I choose? For me, I would choose the one on the left because I LOVE old cars! I like the design of most old cars and I think that it adds in a mix rather than all the modern cars on the road. The middle one is modern but I am not really an SUV fan and the one on the right has futuristic technology but I think that our world may not handle flying cards anywhere within the next couple of years.

Bonus Activity-Blade Runner 2049

Currently, there is a new movie that is out at the cinemas and the title of this movie is called Blade Runner 2049. This movie is set obviously in the future and shows what our future may even be like! If I had to imagine what New Zealand would look like in the year 2099 how would it be?

I would think that by 2099 there would either be a massive population count on the planet and space would be needed for housing and lots or we would have found a solution to this problem (maybe even living on Mars or the moon!) I think that houses may be all in a versatile shape like each room could be a pod and you could join different pods together to create various houses. I think that food and water may be a problem in the future so we may have invented food producers like a machine that could turn plastic into juicy burgers!

Before ending this, Once again I would like to thank everyone behind the Summer Learning Journey team and I hope everyone has a great and safe 2018!!!

  1. Kia Ora Cameron,

My name is Georgia and I am the cluster manager for the Kaikohekohe (Northland) cluster. For the next few days, I'll be commenting on students blogs from Uru Manuka and I am very excited to see the work you all have been doing this summer.

It is amazing to see you've completed the Summer Learning Journey for the summer. What an accomplishment, you must be very proud!

I love what you have written for your future self. I think it is so important to keep an open mind and to explore your options. When you do get to the age where you can start thinking about whether or not you'd like to go to University, going to an open day is really helpful. I currently attend Victoria University of Wellington and in my Year 13 I attended the open day. It was such a great way to get an idea on the courses I'd like to take and also where I wanted to live for my first year.

I'm sure whatever you eventually decide to do, you will be awesome. The travel idea is also such a good idea. I would love to do an OE after I finish my degree. When I was at high school we had exchange students from different places in Europe stay for 6 months - a year. I would love to visit some of the exchange student friends I have made.

Your response to the bonus activity is very interesting. You've put a lot of thought into your answer, even including the shapes of the houses in the future! Ka pai. I saw a vending machine the other day in the mall that makes you freshly squeezed orange juice. I thought that was crazy so imagine what they'll have in vending machines by 2099.

Thank you for being a part of the Summer Learning Journey. I'm sure I could speak on behalf of the SLJ team in saying that w have really enjoyed reading all of your blog posts and think you have done a phenomenal job!

    Nga mihi
    Georgia

    1. Hi Georgia!

Yes it is such a great achievement to complete the Summer Learning Journey but sad because the rest of my holidays will most likely end up boring! It has been a pleasure to take part in it!

      Thanks, Cameron

  2. Hi Cameron!
I've enjoyed reading your blog posts this summer. Did you get to watch the new Blade Runner movie? I did and thought it was really well made. The story is pretty sad when you think about how humans might affect our planet in the future. My biggest concern is for our bee population, as without need there will be no pollination and so no food for people or animals. There are quite a few futuristic movies coming out soon you should try and watch. I know the first of Philip Reeves' "Mortal Engines" books has been made into a movie (by Peter Jackson and filmed in NZ). I think you'd really like it! You can find a teaser trailer on YouTube. Your idea of having pods that fit together sounds really interesting. See if you can find any other movies or books that fit this theme!
Hope you're having a great summer holiday,
    Ms Boothby ☺

Thanks for taking time to read my blogs this summer! Actually, I have not watched the new movie but maybe sometime later I will get it on disc and give it a go!

      Thanks, Cameron
