Activity 1-Hairy Maclary
For today's activity 1 I read about how one of the most popular children's books of all time was invented here in New Zealand and this book was called Hairy Maclary which was written in the year of 1983. My task for this activity was to write a short story from a sentence that was in this book.
"Out of the gate and off for a walk went Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy."
He went to the nearest corner because he was an explorer.
He then walked straight in hope of his fate.
A huge cat had walked in front of the dog which had the name of Feline Pog.
Feline led Hairy to a new Dairy and they saw a sign which had many lines.
Then they wanted some food but they both turned into a feud.
They then turned the street and found some meat.
He had made a new friend and they both knew it was not the end
Then back in the gate and finished his walk came Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy.
Activity 2-The Big 'OE'
For activity 2 I read about how in the 1980s it became increasingly popular for students to graduate from high school then take a year off exploring other countries around the world. This was known as the Big Overseas Experience. My task for activity 2 was to imagine that I was going on one of these big OE's and name a place that I would like to go to and three reasons why.
For my OE I would like to visit Paris. The first reason would be so that I could see the Eiffel Tower up close rather than on my clock. Secondly, I would like to go to Paris to go on a boat that will take me on a tour around the city at night and I can only imagine what it may look like! Lastly, the reason I would want to go to Paris is so that I can try some French food and try a truly baked croissant!
Bonus Activity-The 4 O'clock News
For Today's bonus activity I read about that in the year of 1982 there was a show on called Te Karere which normally has an interviewer named Scotty Morrison. If I could imagine being like him and got the chance to interview anyone that I wanted to, I would interview Peter Jackson. I would ask him "was it hard to create a whole 6 Lord of the rings and the hobbit movies?" "does this job earn you a lot of money?" "Are you planning on making another similar series?" and lastly "what gave you the inspiration to make these movies?'
Hi Cameron!
ReplyDeleteMy name is Carolyn and I'm a New Zealander living in Germany. You've been busy - great to see! I love Hairy Maclary! I guess you could say I am on a bit of an extended 'Big OE' and it's going well. I read in the news that the Eiffel Tower had to be closed yesterday due to the storms we have been having in Europe... it has been very very windy in Germany too! I see NZ's getting hit by the weather too - stay dry!
Happy new year,
Carolyn
Hi there Cameron
ReplyDeleteWow! I absolutely loved reading your hairy Maclary short story. I love your use of rhymes in every sentence, it’s very similar to what the author of Hairy Maclary, Lynley Dodd does in her writing! You have awesome rhyming skills. Did you read any of the Hairy Maclary books in school? I used to read Hairy Maclary books as a kid and I read them to students in class when I’m teaching; my favourite story has got to be Hairy Maclary’s Rumpus at the Vet. That one always got me laughing.
For your second activity, that’s amazing that you want to go to Paris. A lot of my friends went on their OE’s to France and they loved it; I would love to go to Paris one day as well. You wrote some very good reasons about why you would like to visit that city. I think I would definitely love to go to Paris to try a fresh croissant as well! I would also like to go there to go visit The Louvre, which is where the famous Mona Lisa painting is!
For the bonus activity, you’ve written some good questions for Peter Jackson! Did you hear of a discussion about a Lord of the Rings television series being created sometime in the near future? I read an article about it here http://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/news/article.cfm?c_id=1501119&objectid=11943862
That would be awesome if there will be a TV series of the LOTR trilogy!
I look forward to reading more of your blog, keep up the awesome blog posts Cameron!

Hi cameron, I hope you are enjoying your holidays, and I am really glad to see that you are a part of the Summer Learning Journey.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of going to Paris too. I want to see the Louvre which is an art gallery with an entrance building shaped like a pyramid. It used to be a medieval castle! The Mona Lisa lives in it as well as lots of other massively important Art works.
And OMG, I love croissants! I thinking you have a clock with the Eiffel Tower as a part of it?
Scotty Morrison is a cool interviewer, and an interesting choice! He does quite a big range of things. What made you choose him?
My grammar in that comment is awful!!! It's the holidays LOL
