Activity 1-Moana
For activity 1 I read about how there was a huge launch of a new Disney movie in 2016 that was called Moana. It was about a Polynesian girl who goes on an exciting adventure. My task was to watch the trailer for this movie [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqmcxLUSRTQ] and then post on my blog as much as I can say about the movie.
Moana is the daughter of the villages chief and her father wants her to become a chief for her people but Moana has other plans. Since she was a child she wanted to go out past what they call the reef (which shall not be passed due to history). She had tried before to go but her boat had crashed and she had to stay back on land. She then tried again and the second time that she tried she got past the reef and her goal was to save her island from being destroyed. The so-called mother island got its heart taken away from it by a demi-god named Maui (a Maori mythological figure) and in result of this, it stops feeding life to other islands. Moana found Maui and they both ventured out to the mother island so that Maui could put the heart back and restore the islands. They encounter a crab which had stolen Maui's hook(which he uses to transform to various animals) and also they encounter a group of coconut pirates after the heart, yes coconut. They both successfully arrive at the island and find out that the mother island had turned into a huge lava monster but after Moana reminds it that is was the mother island she put the heart back and all peace and liveliness had been restored.
Activity 2-Country Calendar
The longest running TV show in ever for New Zealand is a show called Country Calendar. It has been running since 1966 and can still be watched up to today! It is about New Zealanders and mostly about the farmers out there. My task was to watch a short clip from country calendar [https://www.nzonscreen.com/title/40-years-of-country-calendar-2005] and then say whether I would or not want to be a farmer and the reasons why.
I would not really want to become a farmer because I have other interests. Farming seems undoubtedly a fun job when you get plentiful amounts of rain and the stock prices are not too high. It will let you bond more with animals and you will learn some valuable life skills. On the other hand, I think that it can get quite troubling when it comes to summertime and it may not even make you much of a profit with all the time and effort you put into farming. I wouldn't mind trying it for a couple of months but for a living? not really
Bonus Activity-Singing a Different Tune
Many New Zealand songwriters and singers are getting noticed around the world now and one of them majorly who is called Lorde. She is liked because of her choice of words or lyrics that are used in her songs that she writes. My task was to write down what my favourite song is and post some information about it. I don't really listen to music so I don't have a favourite but out of the couple that I have listened to this is what I seemed to like:
Song Title: Don't Let Me Down
Writer:The Chainsmokers
Lyrics:
Crashing, Hit a wall
Right now I need a miracle
Hurry up now, I need a miracle
Stranded, reaching out
I call your name but your not around
I say your name but your not around
I need you, I need you, I need you right now
Yeah, I need you right now
So don't let me, don't let me, dont let me down
I think I'm losing my mind now
It's in my head, darling, I hope
That you'll be here, when I need you the most
So don't let me, don't let me, don't let me down
d-don't let me down
Don't let me down
don't let me down down down
Don't let me down don't let me down down down
Running out of time
I really thought you were on my side
But now there's nobody by my side
I need you, I need you, I need you right now
Yeah, I need you right now
So don't let me don't let me don't let me down
I think I'm losing my mind now
It's in my head, Darling, I hope
That you'll be here, when I need you the most
So don't let me, don't let me, don't let me down
d-don't let me down
Don't let me down
Don't let me down,down,down
Don't let me down,down,down
Don't let me down,down,down
Don't let me down, don't let me down, down, down
Oh I think I'm losing my mind now, yeah
Oh I think I'm losing my mind now, yeah
Yeah, I need you right now
So don't let me don't let me don't let me down
I think I'm losing my mind now
It's in my head, Darling, I hope
That you'll be here, when I need you the most
So don't let me, don't let me, don't let me down
Don't let me down
Yeah, don't let me down
Yeah, don't let me down
Don't let me down, oh, no
Said don't let me down
don't let me down
Don't let me down
Don't let me down, down, down
Hey Cameron,
ReplyDeleteIt's Jade C from the Summer Learning Journey team. You are a very active blogger and I can tell that you are putting a lot of thoughts and effort into every activities. Do you enjoy doing the Summer Learning Journey activities? Do you learn something new every day? I would love to hear your thoughts!
First of all, well done for completing another set of activities. Today, the activities are based on contemporary entertainment. Do you know what 'contemporary' means? It means something happening or existing in the present. The synonyms would be modern-day, present, current, present-time.
Thank you for posting a link to the movie trailer, I really enjoyed the movie 'Moana' and I watched it with my whole family. I also liked all the songs that were sung by different characters. I thought the movie was awesome because the story relates to Maori culture and tradition. We also have the Maui myth and legend series, but I found the movie a little bit different to the Maui stories that I've read.
What an outstanding paragraph! You have clearly stated your thoughts and opinions and I am starting to think and feel the same way as you. This shows that you have written a very persuasive writing. Yes, it would be very hard for farmers if there were no rain and the soil wasn't too good for crops to grow. Farming depends a lot on weather and seasons so it's really hard for them to have stable income.
I don't listen to music that much as well. I only listen to music when I am driving or blogging. Some people like to listen to music when need to concentrate. I can never listen to music when I need to concentrate. I tend to get distracted by the beat and lyrics. I love listening to music when I am having fun with my friends.
I enjoyed reading this post and I look forward to reading more of your awesome activity blog posts!
Cheers,
Jade C.
Hi Jade!
DeleteThe Summer Learning Journey had definitely helped me learn something if not a couple of things every day! It has been really enjoyable to me and is great because my holidays were not really busy and I would be bored if it wasn't for this!
Thanks, Cameron
Hi there Cameron,
ReplyDeleteJade F here from the SLJ team. Awesome job on completing another set of activities! Not long till you’ve completed your Summer Learning Journey! Woo hoo! :)
Good job on your first activity and explaining Moana’s storyline. I’m guessing you’ve seen the film through reading the detail in your task. Brilliant! I watched the film with my cousin and I absolutely loved it and the music! Is there a song in the movie that you liked the most?
In your second activity, I really liked your response toward to whether you wanted to be a farmer or not. I thought your reasons were very thought out and I definitely respect how much hard work farmers do for NZ’s agriculture! I agree that farming wouldn’t be the job for me either, farmers get up before dawn to begin their work day and I’m not really a morning person. That’s cool that you would give it go too. You would definitely learn some new skills from farming!
That’s cool that you like the Chainsmokers, they’re a very talented group! I’ve heard a few of their tracks and this is a pretty good one, it features another artist in it Daya who is a very talented 19 year old singer! Have you heard of her before? Here’s one of her songs that was quite a popular track on the radio! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yucD1UwYQ1g have a listen and let me know what you think.
Awesome blog post Cameron, looking forward to reading more of your blog posts! :)
All the best,
Jade F :)
Hi Jade!
DeleteActually, yes I have seen the movie and my favourite song inside of it would have to be How Far I'll Go because it is so popular and a lot of instruments had been used in it! I have heard of Daya before but truthfully never knew that she was part of The Chainsmokers!
Thanks, Cameron
Hi Cameron! Sounds like you are enjoying taking part in the summer learning journey! Go you!! I can't believe you don't listen to music!!!!!! You are such a fantastic musician you must have some favourite artists, maybe some cool pianists!! You should look into that he he he! I love Lorde too and New Zealand music is definitely doing fantastically for such a small wee country!
ReplyDeleteIf you were interested in becoming a musician what type pf music would you want to play?
Look forward to hearing from your journey!
Mrs B :)
Hi Mrs Beer!
DeleteYes I have enjoyed taking part in the Summer Learning Journey as I have learned new things I probably would have never even thought about! If I wanted to become a musician my pick would be Classical music because of the nice range of different styles like minuets, sonata's and even ballades!
Thanks, Cameron
