Having friends is more important than having money

Money. The one thing that everyone “needs”. Think about this: Can money buy you everlasting happiness? Can money buy you family? Can money buy you Friends? The answer that furiously pops out is “No”. So, would you pick either the luxury of cold-hard cash or having a group of close friends?

Is money better than friends? In my opinion-chosen mind, I believe truly that without friends to spend your money with, there is no need for money in this case. Imagine having the money to buy a brand new shirt that you have been itching to buy but have no friends to kindly “show-it-off”. You would have bored yourself out at the fact that you actually got it, and no one would care (or know) that you even had it. Think of this as being in a personal loop of buying, being happy in the moment, then being solely alone. Nothing you would want to go through, right? Friends are what makes spending money ‘“cool” so I’d hope to keep great friends instead of having that spectacular shirt.

So my opinion has been stated, but let’s just look at the other side of things and pretend that money is better than having friends. To start this off, here’s a quick scenario to get your head around. You are out at the local fast-food restaurant after a sizzling school day. You walk up to the counter to get a chilled frozen drink but you then realize that you have a bunch of friends with you moaning the same old phrase “Can I have some”? The answer to this situation would most-likely be to buy them one as well. This can be, in some sense, irritating. If these friends were never there, on the other hand, you could have the drink and keep some change all to yourself.  This may sound selfish, but who cares right? After all, there is no-one to spend the money on anyway.

After getting that off my chest, I think the answer is crystal clear. Friends play an important part in the way you use and share money, regardless of the situation. After reading this, do you think money can buy happiness? Can money buy family? Can money buy Friends? Money or Friends… what would be you choice?

Introduction

Catch’em: Too expensive, too uncomfortable, and too unsuitable.

Thesis: The Hornby High School uniform should be changed.

List of points: This is because it costs too much, it is unbearably irritating to wear, and it is unsuitable for the different seasons.

S] Some Hornby families can not afford the school uniform.

E] For example, some caregivers find the $130 jacket too excessive.

X] This is because they need the money for other necessities such as food, power, and rent. This is a terrible situation for substantially sized Whānau.

Y] Do we want our students to be starving, cold or homeless, just for the school uniform?

S] Not only is it too expensive, but it is extremely uncomfortable as well.

E] For instance, the socks, jersey, and skirts are all teeth-gnawingly trapping and itchy.

X] This distracts from learning. We want our students always ready-to-learn.

Y] This doesn’t suit its purpose, does it?

S] As well as the uniform being too expensive and uncomfortable, it is inappropriate for certain weather conditions.

E] We see this when students are wearing non-regulation jackets or jerseys to be warm when it is cold and wet.

X] “The skirts are far too cold on a wildly wet and windy winter’s day,” said Kirsty, a year 10 student.

Y] Jaymee - another year 10 student - commented that they could also end up dying from hypothermia if the uniform does not change.

Restate Thesis: Change the school uniform now!

Restate List of Points: Why? Because it costs too much, it is Horrible and intolerable to wear, and it is totally ill-equipped for New Zealand’s moody Mother Nature.

Punch Line: A better quality uniform will result in better quality learning.
